El Torco

The lighthouse and the ‘Torco’ are watchers of the entrance to the port of Suances. The lighthouse and the defensive walls of the ‘Torco’ make up a natural setting which is a must for every tourist but also a nice walk for our neighbours any time.

After its renovation, the buildings of the old defensive walls hold the University of Cantabria summer courses and also an Art Gallery which hosts several exhibitions and social events.

If you want to feel the sea, enjoy a beautiful view or just throw the fishing rod, you should not miss this landmark.


Punta El Dichoso

‘Punta del Dichoso’, also known as ‘Roca Blanca’ was recently restored and now there is a park with amazing sea views. While taking a walk along its paths over the cliffs, its scenic beauty and its charm will offer you the most incredible photos. And above all, there you will enjoy the peaceful and quietness.



‘Los Cantos’, a remote place on the the banks of the mouth of San Martín firth, is a small port, a kind of refugee for small fishing boats. You can get there through ‘La Cuba’ neighbourhood and, since it is far from buildings and roads, it still keeps its quietness.

You can also access to ‘Los Cantos’ through the pedestrian and cycling lane because the lane goes along this area. So it is an ideal place to stroll and enjoy the view, surrounded by peace and harmony.


Mirador de La Cuba

The natural setting of this fishing district is the ideal place to watch the horizon, a place where the sailors used to check the sea state and a place with an excellent view of the mouth of the firth and the harbour. Below, you can see ‘La Ribera’ and ‘La Riberuca’ beaches.

These scenic overlooks are essential to understand the job of Suances fishermen in the past.


Atajo de la Fuente de Enmedio

From this fishing district, there is an old trail that leads to the lower part of town. This path is known as ‘Fuente de Enmedio shortcut’ and formerly it was widely used, especially by women, who went to the laundry to wash clothes.

This trail that has been recently restored runs among vegetation and trees and so it allows you to enjoy a unique landscape. It ends up in the Landscape Park of La Ribera.

Definitely, it is a place which is really worth visiting.



The municipality of Suances, due to its topography of coastal town, offers many different interesting places, such as ‘Vuelta Ostrera’. It is an area flooded by tidal marsh and a passing area for many migratory bird species.

Here you can see amazing views of high tide at dawn and at sunset from the scenic overlook in Cortiguera.


Senda Peatonal Ciclable

It is 5.7 km long from ‘La Riberuca’ beach in Suances to San Martín district in Hinojedo.

The lane also runs through the municipalities of Santillana del Mar, Torrelavega, Cartes and Los Corrales de Buelna. This area is known as ‘Arco Verde’ of Saja-Besaya river basin. It is an ideal place to enjoy a nice walking and excellent views while enjoying healthy activities and sports.


Above all, Suances beaches are worth mentioning. There are 6 beaches and all of them are a must-see due to their particular features: Riberuca, Ribera, Concha, Locos, Tablía and Sable.
